Elementary I Teaching Staff
Harris Montanye joined our staff as an Elementary I Teacher in the 2019-2020 school year. Harris comes to us with education and experience both in and out of the Montessori realm, and a background that will both add to and complement the classroom and our other Elementary I Teacher, Faith Loven. Harris holds a BS in Psychology from Auburn University. Additionally, Harris has taught Yoga and Mindfulness to children, coached hockey, and assisted therapists at Sweetgrass Psychological. He directed the aftercare program at Woodland Montessori the same year that he was a teaching assistant and has been a substitute residential counselor at Summit Preparatory Therapeutic Boarding School, leading older students in outdoor and school related activities. In the 2018-2019 school year, Harris worked as a teaching assistant and substitute teacher here at KME. He worked with students, guiding them during the morning work time, in the lunch room and outdoors. Your students know and have enjoyed Harris already. Harris is familiar with our building, our routines, and his understanding of the Montessori Method so far aligns with his personal philosophies.
Elementary II Teaching staff
David Cummings has been with KME since 2001. He began as an assistant to Terry Welder in the Elementary II classroom. In the summer of 2002 he traveled to New York to receive 6-12 grade training at the Center for Montessori Teacher Education (now known as CME) and is certified by AMS. He has been teaching with Terry in the EII classroom ever since. David received his bachelor's degree in biochemistry from MSU-Bozeman in 1997 where he met his lovely wife, Dawn. Together they joined Peace Corps in 1999 and taught ESL in Morocco. In high school he was a foreign exchange student to Latvia through the AFS Intercultural Program and continues to volunteer for them. David grew up in the Flathead Valley and loves living among his family. He has two daughters, both completed Montessori schooling, and an inexplicable passion for bird hunting and bike riding.
Marli has made many memories and impactful impressions on our students and we are fortunate that she so graciously shares her gentleness, knowledge and love of the Montessori Method with our community every year. Be sure to say a few words of gratitude or share a special memory with Marli any time you see her (or when she sneaks back in to sub for a teacher for a few days). Marli has been our school's mentor for a million years! She is always there to help out when we need her. Thank you Marli!!
